FAQ: Audeara: headphones that deliver perfect sound, always.
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

My hearing is fine why do I need these headphones?

Not only do we correct for your hearing, we correct for the way headphones change the music. Everyone hears differently and Audera are the only headphone to tailor the music perfectly for you.

Is this a medical device?

We started our journey building a medical device for hearing tests but Audeara headphones are not a medical device to be used by doctors or to make a diagnosis. We use a hearing test that is very accurate and based on medical science but these headphones are designed to make your music sound better.

How do you test my hearing?

Medical hearing tests take a very long time so we’ve developed a system to get the same results but a lot faster! We use a slider system that is just like a volume dial. We’re playing a beeping tone the entire time. What we want is to find your threshold of hearing at a number of frequencies. That means we want to find the quietest possible sound you can definitely hear at each frequency. If you can hear the beeping you turn it down, if you can’t hear the beeping you turn it up until you land on that sweet spot. We use that information to decide what changes we need to make to give you exactly what you need. We also show you the result so you can understand and track your hearing over time.

What devices can I listen to with my Audeara headphones?

You can listen to anything that has bluetooth or a 3.5mm analog trasmitter. We use bluetooth to send the signal from the device to the headphones. This means that any bluetooth device will work with the headphones. This means you can use your phone, tablet, laptop, tv, stereo, radio…

If they’re perfect for me can I share them with my friend?

It’s always nice to share but it’s very very unlikely that anyone you share your headphones with will have the same hearing as you so they won’t sound very good. What we do to overcome this is allow you to set different profiles in the Audeara app. You can also set them to be ‘factory default’ for a quick fix if you really have to. After hearing how great they sound with your personal profile we’re sure you’ll never want generic again.

Can I listen to my hearing profile without the bluetooth on?

They are bluetooth headphones and will need to be powered to apply your personalised profile. We are currently exploring the option of applying the profile using a wired connection and bypassing the bluetooth signal. If we can deliver this feature without having to push back our expected delivery date, we will absolutely include it.

Can I listen or watch a TV with your headset while others listen to the TVs through the normal speakers, likewise with a hifi system?

It may be different depending on the TV type but if it has bluetooth audio output, usually it will turn the normal audio (through the speakers) off if bluetooth is enabled.

If your TV doesn’t have bluetooth - you can purchase one of our bluetooth dongles to allow you to use the headphones with the TV but unfortunately this will most likely only play audio through the bluetooth, again - depending on the TV.

I already use an EQ why do I need your headphones?

Audera uses its model to personalise and give you a premium foundation as the best reflection of the intended sound. From there if you want to change it then you can use any EQ that you would like.

Do the headphones have wired capability?

Yes! After hitting our Stretch Goal on Kickstarter, Audeara added new functionality to activate your personalised listening profile using an audio cable. This will be included with your headphones, and enables three different listening modes:

Powered + Bluetooth + Personalised Profile Powered + Wired + Personalised Profile No Power + Wired + Standard analogue (backup if battery runs down)

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
